Discussion:
Spybot S&D and Opera

I have been using Opera for a while now with Spybot S&D and understand
that the two are compatible. But Opera's cookies are stored in a
different format and a different place from those of IE, and Spybot
only finds cookies from my scant use of IE. What gives?

Opera 6.06

Use Opera itself (preferences > privacy > manage cookies) to check your
cookies - V7.5 will allow inspection of cookie contents; for previous
versions you can use Opera File Explorer:

It is true that automatic scanning is thus not possible for Opera using
S&D - but if you have a good cookie management policy (which is impossible
with IE), you shouldn't need it.

OFE still works fine with the preview.

No, I simply mean it will finally not be needed for cookie management
anymore as Opera will contain the same functionality. The current 7.5
preview has a bug in the cookie manager, so I still use OFE.

Opera's cookie format is different from MSIE's, but it is documented, so
S&D could implement this functionality if they wished. They might want to
make sure not to change files while Opera is running though. The
Cookie-stuff in S&D is the least interesting part though, IMHO.

I've activated the "delete all cookies on exit". That should do it, I hope.

Last time I tried S&D, it did indeed find my Opera cookie file
(cookies4.dat). Unlike MSIE (but like Mozilla), Opera does not store
each cookie in a separate file, and the support in S&D is limited to
deleting the entire file, losing all cookies.

As others have written, you'd probably be better off using the
internal cookie editor in Opera for deleting the cookies you don't
like.
